Kohli, Sharma bring India closer to 330-run target

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma pile up runs as they put India on course to achieve the 330-run target during their high-voltage league match of the Asia Cup cricket tournament against Pakistan today. Pakistan innings
Openers Mohammed Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed cracked
sparkling centuries as Pakistan piled up a mammoth 329 for six against India. Both Hafeez (105) and Jamshed (112) stitched a record 224-run opening partnership to lay the foundation as the Indian attack wore a pedestrian look throughout the innings while below par fielding in the initial part only added to the woes.

The opening stand is Pakistan's highest against India eclipsing Saeed Anwar and Aamer Sohail's opening stand of 144 in Singapore, back in 1996.
Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul Haq won the toss and his decision to bat was vindicated by the openers who didn't put a foot wrong during their partnership. They never took any undue risks yet hit boundaries at will while keeping the scorers busy with singles and twos.
Hafeez was the first to get off the blocks with a square cut off Praveen Kumar's bowling in the very first over.
Young Jamshed then took the cue and hit Praveen for three boundaries in the third over and Pakistan never looked back since then.
The 50 of the innings came in the 10th over and 100 in the 18th over as Dhoni's bowlers looked clueless in the wake of the onslaught.

While Praveen's lack of pace on a slow pitch became his undoing, Irfan time and again drifted on the pads as both Jamshed and Hafeez gleefully kept clipping those deliveries at will.
Dhoni even tried to use four spinners -- all off-spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma. The one-dimensional spin-attack also went for runs. Hafeez hit Pathan Senior for a big six over square leg.
The only chance during the phase came when Jamshed misjudged a flighted delivery from Tendulkar as he committed to the stroke a bit early. The ball came at great speed and bounced off Tendulkar's palms as he injured a finger in the process. Jamshed was on 69 then.
After that, the batsmen hardly took any risks as they went about doing their job in a thoroughly professional manner.
Hafeez reached his fourth ODI hundred pushing Praveen to mid-off and scampering home for a quick single. The 200 also came up in the same over -- 33rd of the innings. He hit nine fours and a six in the process.
In the 35th over, Jamshed completed his maiden ODI ton pushing Praveen towards mid-wicket. He reached his ton off 98 balls with nine hits to the fence. After reaching his century, the southpaw lifted Praveen over deep square leg.
When Jamshed was finally dismissed by Ashwin in the 36th over, the pair were four runs short of equalling the highest-ever opening stand of 228 for Pakistan recorded by Imran Farhat and Hafeez in Harare, back in 2011.
Jamshed went for a slog sweep only to top-edge at short third-man where Irfan latched onto the ball on second attempt. Jamshed hit 10 fours and a sixin his 104-ball knock.
Ashok Dinda who bowled a good first four overs finally got a wicket as Hafeez missed his slower delivery and was rapped on the pads. Hafeez had nine fours and six in his 113 ball knock.
At 225 for two, Umar Akmal ( 28, 24 balls) and Younis Khan (52, 34 balls, 6x4) joined hands adding 48 runs in quick time before Akmal was holed out to short fine-leg.
Younis scored a quickfire 50 off 33 balls before a stunning one-handed catch by Raina saw his back. The score could have reached 350 but Indian bowlers restricted them in the slog overs.
The Indian bowling, which has copped a lot of flak in recent times, could not put up an improved show as most of the bowlers couldn't stick to one line.
Praveen was the most expensive bowler with figures of two for 77 in 10 overs while Irfan was not far behind giving away one for 69 in his full quota of overs.
Dinda was the only saving grace among the pacers as he gave away 47 in eight overs getting two wickets in the process. Ashwin's poor form continued as he went for 56 in his 10 overs.

Yuvraj Singh discharged from hospital

Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh was on Sunday discharged from hospital after completing the third and final cycle of chemotherapy to recover from a rare germ cell cancer in Boston, USA. "3rd chemo cycles over, back from hospital n I am free. Road to recovery starts now. Can't wait to be
back home," Yuvraj tweeted. "Thank you 4 all ur love n wishes from the bottom of my heart I'm sure they have worked well with the doctors therapy," he said. Yuvraj, who has been in Boston since last month, is expected to be back on the field in the first week of May, according to his doctor. The 30-year-old has gone bald during the treatment.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj also paid tribute to his veteran teammate Sachin Tendulkar for completing a century of international hundreds. "Overwhelmed and full of emotions Tendulkar take a bow What he has achieved is immeasurable and what he has done is unachievable@sachin_rt," he tweeted.
"He truly is the MASTER of his generation." Yuvraj has not played competitive cricket since taking part in two of three home Tests against the West Indies in November.
He has so far scored 8,051 runs in 274 one-dayers and 1,775 runs in 37 Tests since making his international debut in 2000.
He was named Player of the Tournament in the World Cup for scoring 362 runs and grabbing 15 wickets in nine matches. During the treatment, Yuvraj had been paid a visit by legendary former Indian spinner Anil Kumble.

Ind vs Pak: Virat Kohli helps India crush Pakistan by 6 wickets

Virat Kohli produced a blistering 183 off 148 balls as India notched up their highest run chase ever to register an incredible six-wicket victory over arch-rivals Pakistan and keep themselves afloat in the Asia Cup cricket tournament on Sunday.

Chasing Pakistan's stiff 329 for six, the Indians rode on Kohli's breath-taking heroics to pull off a sensational victory with 13 balls to spare in a high-voltage contest at the jam-packed Sher-e-Bangla national stadium.

Apart from Kohli's career-best knock, his second century in the tournament, Rohit Sharma (68) and Sachin Tendulkar (52) were the other notable contributors as India eclipsed their highest successful run chase of 326 for eight against England at the Lords in the NatWest Cup final in 2002.

It was a stunning assault by the young Kolhi who smashed 22 boundaries and one six while Tendulkar also gave ample display of his vintage form during his knock. Rohit also marked his return to form with some glorious shots.

The outstanding batting display by the Indians completely overshadowed the centuries of the two Pakistan openers Nasir Jamshed (112) and Mohammad Hafeez (105) who stitched a record 224-run opening partnership. But their efforts went in vain.

India, whose Asia Cup campaign was thrown into disarray after their upset five-wicket defeat against minnows Bangladesh, will now have to await the result of the last league match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh on Tuesday.

If Sri Lanka wins, India will go into the final but a Sri Lankan defeat will ensure that Bangladesh take on Pakistan in the final on March 22.

As per the rules, if two teams are tied on points, head to head record will be considered, so Bangladesh will go into the final as they had beaten India in their league match.

Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit Umar Gul to the boundary to bring about India's victory, triggering off scenes of celebrations in the dressing room.

The Indian run chase began on a disastrous note as Gautam Gambhir was dismissed in the very second ball of the innings with spinner Mohammad Hafeez getting the scalp.

Undeterred by the early setback, Tendulkar and Kohli unleashed a flurry of strokes to maintain a very good run rate.

With the burden of the 100th international ton off his shoulders, Tendulkar seemed to be in a more relaxed frame of mind and an upper cut six off Umar Gul brought back memories of his vintage days.

The pair brought about the 100-run partnership in 92 balls to keep India in the hunt while Kohli notched up his half century soon after by cutting Saeed Ajmal to the boundary.

In the next over off Wahab Riaz, Tendulkar posted his 96th ODI half century off just 45 balls.

Just when the partnership was assuming dangerous proportions, spinner Ajmal provided the vital breakthrough by evicting Tendulkar who seemed to be in sublime touch.

It was the 'doosra' which consumed Tendulkar as he went forward but only succeeded in edging the ball to Younis Khan at first slip. His knock of 52 came off 48 balls and contained five boundaries and a six.

Rohit Sharma, who joined the action after Tendulkar's dismissal, was a trifle tentative in the initial stages which brought down the scoring rate to some extent. But gradually he started playing his strokes.

Kohli brought about his 11th ODI century by taking a single off Hafeez, completing the ton of 97 balls and with the help of 11 boundaries.

Aamir Khan wants to work with Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan`s charm and enduring performance seems to have impressed `perfectionist` Aamir Khan so much that he has expressed his desire to work with the national award winning actress.

Vidya`s dream run began with R Balki`s `Paa` (2009) alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Vishal Bharadwaj`s `Ishqiya` (2010) opposite Nasseruddin Shah, Raj Kumar Gupta`s `No One Killed Jessica` (2011) alongside Rani Mukherjee, Milan Luthria`s `The Dirty Picture` (2011) and the latest, Sujosh Ghosh`s `Kahaani` (2012).

With Vidya being compared with Aamir for her perfectionist style, so much so that she is dubbed by some in the industry as a `Female Aamir Khan`, the latter is singing the paeans for her.

"I think we must call Vidya by her name only and who am I for her to be getting my name? She is very talented and a wonderful actress. I would love to work with her," Aamir said.

Though Aamir has not seen Vidya`s recent movie, he is lavish in praise for the 34-year-old actress.

"I haven`t seen `Kahaani` yet but I have heard good things about it, people have appreciated and liked the film a lot. Even about Vidyaji I have heard good things. People have appreciated and liked her recent films and I congratulate her," he said.

After Shirish slap-gate, it’s time for SRK’s film with Farah

We all know for a fact that Bollywood is a place where friendship and enmity take shape overnight. Nothing is for good in this world of glam and glitz.

Not too long ago, once thick friends Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan had made headlines over Shirish Kunder’s (husband of Farah Khan) slap-gate episode that took the Tinsel Town by storm.

Kunder had made derogatory remarks about SRK’s ‘Ra.One’ that irked King Khan, leading to an alleged fist fight and a hard slap on the filmmaker’s face.

As expected, the two Khans kissed and reconciled with Kunder profusely apologising to the biggie for throwing his weight around him.

And if the latest buzz that is doing the rounds is to be believed then the two Khans have teamed up for a film.
Talking to a daily, a source revealed, “After the fight SRK had with Farah`s husband Shirish Kunder at Sanjay Dutt`s party in February, the duo patched up. They even met a few times at home after that. It was during one of Farah`s visits to Mannat that they talked about working together again.
Before SRK left for a 40-day schedule to London for his next film, Farah narrated the script and he instantly said yes.
Apart from his wife Gauri, SRK`s close friends Kaajal Anand and Karan Johar have been instrumental in bringing the warring duo back together.”

“Farah even went to London for two days recently to seal the dates and complete other formalities. The film is being touted as the baap of ‘Main Hoon Naa’ and will be a wholesome entertainer,” added the source
