B-town beauties to add glamour for the first IPL match to be hosted in the city
The IPL fever is gripping the city. And for Puneiites - this year will be a double whammy- since they will get to cheer for their team from the home ground. To set the mood, the first match of Pune Warriors against Kings XI Punjab will see a glitzy affair as B town beauties will perform at a glittering opening ceremony on April 8.
A larger than life concert will see Priyanka Chopra do a lavani to enthrall the audience. And this only gets bigger as Bollywood actresses do different dance forms to showcase the Indian culture. The show direction and creative concept spearheaded by choreographer Ganesh Hegde will see Preity Zinta, Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia, Jacqueline Fernandes to name a few, dance to songs to make a evening a glitzy affair.
And unlike cheer leaders, the city will be treated to Cheer Queens. To root for every six, four and a century that Pune Warriors team will make, the Cheer Queens will perform to seven Indian dance forms including lavani, bhangra, mohinihatang, bengali folk, bharatnatyam and haryanvi. Revealing details of the show Hegde says, "There is a lot beyond having just pretty faces dancing with pom poms. We found out that the Indian culture is missing. In any match, for the first fifteen minutes a fan may be entertained, but after a point it bores them. We took the opportunity to club Indian culture and entertainment and present it through our Cheer Queens."
Presented in its authentic form, each dance will provide high octave energy not just to the dance steps but also to the fans in the stadium. So will they tweak the authentic styles and put in their own steps? Ganesh shares, "No improvisation at all, as these are traditional dance forms. We have maintained the authentic style, but have changed into high energy performance, which each fan will enjoy and want to dance."
According to Hegde, the lavani dance form will be constant, while the other dance forms will be shuffled accordingly. Another factor that's important to any dance sequence, apart from its choreography, is its costume. And this year, National Award winner fashion designer Neeta Lulla, has designed the entire costume for every dance form. "The Cheer Queens will don authentic costumes that are replicas of the traditional attire. They will be representing each dance style in those creations, designed by her," informs Ganesh.
