Jarno and Caterham go their separate ways, as Russian Petrov is preferred over sponsorship deals. After 256 Grand Prix races the 37-year-old from Abruzzo loses his place and the world championship will be without Italian drivers for the first time since 1969. "It's a pity"
Jarno Trulli and Caterham have come to the end of the line. The Anglo-Malaysian team, who had entrusted one of their cars to the 37-year old Italian, have announced that he had been replaced, with immediate effect, by Russian Vitaly Petrov, 27 who brings rich sponsors and who will be behind the wheel for the Barcelona tests, scheduled for the 21 to 24 February. So Formula 1 has lost its last Italian: on 18 March in Australia when the first Grans Prix of the 2012 season are lining up there will be no Italians on the starting grid. The last time that happened was in 1969.
